Christmas on the Farm joins Santa Claus Parade
For 40 years, the Sarnia Kinsmen has hosted the Santa Claus Parade. This year, the Santa Claus Parade will once again take place at Lambton College.
The “Drive Thru” Santa Claus Parade will take place on November 27th from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30p.m. and spectators will be able to drive by all the stationery floats and view the floats from the safety and comfort of their own vehicles.
Every year, thousands of residents and visitors get a glimpse of this magical Parade which has become a yearly tradition for many. This year, we have also partnered with another yearly tradition – Christmas on the Farm.
This year marks the 47th anniversary of the annual Christmas on the Farm event, hosted by the City of Sarnia in partnership with the Seaway Kiwanis Club.
The event is traditionally held at Canatara Park during the first weekend in December; however this year, the City of Sarnia and the Seaway Kiwanis Club are reimagining it as “Christmas at Home” by partnering with the Santa Claus Parade.
“We will be handing out 2,000 “Christmas at Home” kits to every vehicle that drives by the parade (until supplies last). Each kit is meant for one family, and is perfect for hosting a night of writing letters to Santa, cookie decorating, and Christmas craft making”, said Rachel Veilleux, Community Services Coordinator for the City of Sarnia. “These kits would not be possible without the tireless efforts and contributions from our community partners – Crafty Kat Creations, Ryan’s House, Toys R Us, and the bakery at Sunripe Freshmarket.”
The annual Letters to Santa Campaign will also resume this year. As of Saturday, November 13, a special holiday mailbox will be stationed at Toys R Us in Lambton Mall until Sunday, December 5. During this time, children can drop off letters to Santa that will be mailed to the North Pole! Toys R Us has created a letter template that will be available on the City of Sarnia website for download or at the store itself, starting Saturday, November 13. Snap a photo of the memorable moment in front of the holiday-themed backdrop in-store! Also, Canada Post will be part of the Parade again this year and letters can be dropped off at the event on November 27th.
The Kinsmen have been hard at work finalizing all the details including coordinating with the local volunteers, businesses, industry, service groups, rest homes, churches and schools to make this another unforgettable event.
The theme this year is; “Support our Local Sarnia Food Banks”.
The Sarnia Kinsmen will be collecting grocery items and sanitary products at the Parade.
“It is our hope this will be another memorable event and families will once again be able to view the wonderful floats created by the hundreds of volunteer’s, community industries and citizens”, said Bob Marks, Chair of the Santa Clause Parade. “Many hours of planning have gone into this event and we could not have done it with the community support of Lambton College, the City of Sarnia Parks & Recreation Department, the Seaway Kiwanis Club & Tourism Sarnia Lambton. Plans are already underway for the 2022 Parade which will once again be hosted on December 3rd on Christina Street”
There are still a few spaces available in the parade! If you would like more information or to register a float, please visit http://sarniakinsmen.ca/santa-claus-parade/.
This event certainly would also not be possible without the dedication of the volunteers, the local businesses and organizations that participate in the Parade and the financial support from our community.
If you would like to support this community tradition and support our local Food Banks, please mail and make a cheque payable to the Kinsmen Club of Sarnia P.O. Box 861, Sarnia, Ontario, N7T 7J9.
Donations can also be dropped off at Tourism Sarnia Lambton, 1455 Venetian Blvd, Point Edward.
Together, we can continue these two great community traditions by celebrating this years’ Santa Claus Parade and “Christmas at Home” with your family in the safety of your vehicle.
